Elastic reeks, unwearable

I bought these over a month ago and despite leaving outside to air out for over a week, soaking overnight in borax multiple times, the waistband still smells extremely strongly of rubber. I tried wearing them and the smell rubbed off on my pants. Not sure what the issue is, 2 pairs had this problem and another 2 that were sent in a separate package had no weird smell and are normal.
