I bought six pairs of these shorts in various colors and I love them! However, my rustic blue pair became totally discolored after one wash... I mean completely ruined. No issues with any other color except this one. If you read this review, skip the light blue! Navy, black, and khaki were all good.

I was glad to find these shorts because I am ... short ... and most men's shorts these days are for guys 5'10" and above. So these cut above the knee on me. They're a bit snug — I normally wear mediums but medium in this short was too big in the waist. The small waist was just right because of the elastic band. I'd like to see these in a synthetic fabric which would sport a true, rich black that all cotton can't. The price was in line with other brands. #AEReviewSweepsEntry

Bought these for my son who is a 28 in the waist, I ordered XS and they fit perfect. If you get a stain on them do not spray any kind of spray N wash and leave it on longer than 5 mins or it will fade the color out dramatically and it’s not a good look.

Blue Color is a Problem

These shorts fit great. I purchased several colors for my son but the blue color looks like it has bleached out spots on it after the first wash. I did not see any of the reviews that also mentioned this until after purchasing and washing. American Eagle, I’m very disappointed that you have not pulled this color of these shorts and keep them selling them. There is obviously a problem in the dye or fabric.

I purchased 3 pairs of these shorts for my son. The fit and style are great and they are really comfy. However , the dye on black ones transfers like crazy. I washed them separately twice as instructed but the third time I washed them with bed sheets and the colour transferred and completely ruined my sheets. I’ve honestly never experienced a piece of clothing that transferred its colour so much especially after washing them 3 times. They must be using really cheap dye, very disappointing

Fades & Discoloration

I bought the black, dark blue, and the baby blue variant of these shorts. Black was my first pair, I loved them so much in the beginning, which is why I bought the other two...
Black faded really bad after a few washes. Fading happened along the elastic waste and pocket areas. Almost looks white in those areas.
Dark blue I haven't worn as much, but fading is also apparent. Not to mention the shrinking, which is a trait of all 3 of my pairs.
Baby Blue has faded so bad it almost looks grey, not to mention stains on it that resemble a bleach stain (as seen in other's pictures in the comments).

Bought these shorts for my boyfriend. He wore them once and I washed them… THOUGHT that somehow bleach accidentally got on them and I was going to replace them BUT then I saw the reviews….clearly I did NOT get bleach on them and there’s an issue with the fabric of the shorts. SUPER disappointed that they were ruined after 1 wash especially for the price…I’m going to see if I can return them because of this.

These shorts are made out of terrible material and/or terrifying dyes. I added some detergent directly on them in a couple spots for stains and they became completely discolored. Not a single other item in that particular load was effected but the shorts. The material / dye has to be the issue. I have never seen this problem and it is very unusual; it definitely indicates there is something about the dyes used in AE products. So sad that I pad $30 for a pair of shorts which could only be worn once.
BTW, I only added one star because this doesn’t seem to get submitted otherwise.

After one wash the blue colour ran out and left with bleach-like stains all over the shorts. They are ruined and haven’t even worn them yet! Believe the reviews and don’t buy. Sooooo disappointed in the quality for this brand that I have always liked.

Ruined in the Wash

I thought bleach had somehow gotten into the wash even though I hadn’t used it. Then I read the other reviews here when I was shopping for a replacement pair. The shorts came out of the first wash covered with blotchy bleached-out stains. Such a disappointment, because my kid loved them. Will not replace now as it seems to be a product defect.
