If you are looking for a stylish pair of dark denim flare jeans- these are the ones to get. Every boutique I looked at was charging $80+ and did not have any long enough for my legs. These fit perfectly- better than pictured! Long enough to wear small heels with but short enough to wear mules or flats with.

Artist Jeans have long been my favorite fit at American Eagle, but they are usually a little too low and a bit too much whiskering(I've used RIT black clothing dye to solve that issue in the past). All that has changed with this new High-Waisted Artist Flare Jean! I can bend over without worrying that I am showing any "rear cleavage" or having to hitch up my jeans every 10 minutes and while they do have some whiskering, it is much less than most of the AE jeans. I already ordered a couple extra pairs of these once I tried my first pair on. As other reviewers have mentioned they might be just a tad smaller, but not enough for me to go up a size, my usual size worked fine. The only thing I would change is if they would do a dark rinse without any whiskering at all. Thank you for adding this style to your jean selection, I hope you keep it in stock for a long time!

Closest thing to the old GAP Long + Lean Jeans

Back in the early 2000s, the GAP made a style of jeans called "Long + Lean" and they were awesome. Sadly, they discontinued the style and left this middle-aged mama in the lurch. These High Waisted Artist Flare Jeans are the closest thing to them, and I love everything about them. Before ordering, I read the reviews and saw that they run a bit small, so I ordered a size up - I normally wear an 8, so I got a 10 and they fit perfectly. I also ordered the Short length and the length is perfect too!

I ordered a size up and they fit perfectly. I'm so happy they come in long because regular jeans are always shrink up too short. They are slimming because they are a dark wash from top to bottom. (Jean makers nowadays keep putting the whitewash on the thighs and hips and it just makes your legs look huge.) I was searching for a pair of high waisted dark washed flares to wear with my nice loafers. These are perfect and I'm so happy w them that I just ordered 2 more pairs.

I really like the flare size and material , American Eagle always had good flares. But I always noticed there jeans run small for sure. I wear size 10 even 8 in a lot of other jeans but always have to go with 12 in American Eagle, oh well they are a keeper.

I’m 5’2” and it is so hard to find bootcut jeans that are the right length. I got size 2 short and they are perfect! I can wear them with flat sneakers and the hems don’t drag on the floor, but not too short either. I like that they are neither too high waisted nor too low waisted.
The only complaint I have is that the buttons and the seams on the waistband area are kind of itchy. The threads used in this area are very stiff and scratches my skin. It is not a deal breaker for me, but it still bothers me a bit. I might try to melt the threads with a lighter and see if I can fix it. Overall I love how they look on me, and I’m happy I got them.

Love these jeans. Got them in a size 2 short and they were way too long. So I exchanged for a 2 extra short and they were way too tight. I suggest going a size up if you need a shorter size.

Ordered up a size according to many reviews that I read as well as experience with older versions of the artist jeans & they are HUGE!!! Just order your regular size. Other than that, they are the softest, most flattering jeans that I’ve ever put on!!! I ordered down a size, hoping they’re everything I’m dreaming of.

My Flare Experience

The cut and flare is nice, though I would have liked it to be a bit more flared out. However, the jeans were too small. The high waist isn’t for me and I didn’t find it very comfortable, hence the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. But that’s just personal taste. I exchanged these for a lower rise cut with the flare style in one size up and I’m sure they’ll fit perfectly. One thing I love? The fact that your jeans NEVER bag out. They always make the booty look nice no matter how long you wear them!

I ordered this pair online knowing that the size 0 regular in the regular waisted artist flare jeans fit perfectly. A higher waisted jean usually fits my figure better due to my waist being higher. These pair immediately fit comfortably in the waist and bum area than the regular rise. However, I have to take one star off this review because the legs are slightly baggy. The only difference should have been the rise in waist, so I’m a bit disappointed they increased the leg width on these. Hopefully a good wash, and dry should shrink these bad boys, as this has worked in the past on other AE jeans I’ve purchased in the past. If you usually wear between a 24w and 25w (00-0) in AE jeans, then I suggest sizing down on these particular pair, and stick to ordering your usual size in the regular rised artist flare.
