We caught up with Megan to get the scoop on her favorite things about being an athlete.

Aerie: Which sport is your favorite?

Megan: Basketball.

Aerie: Why do you love competing in Special Olympics?

Megan: Competing is fun with friends.

Aerie: What’s the best part of being an athlete?

Megan: Keeping in shape.

Aerie: What advice do you have for other athletes?

Megan: Make friends & have fun!

Megan first got involved in Special Olympics when her mom was looking for a peer group for Megan to be a part of. Throughout Megan’s 14-year Special Olympics career she has participated in multiple sports including soccer, swimming, track & field and her personal favorite, basketball. Megan’s favorite part of being in Special Olympics is spending time with her friends and boyfriend, who she met through Special Olympics.

When not training for her many sports, Megan likes to stay active in her community.  She is a Best Buddies Ambassador for the Duquesne University Best Buddies program and volunteers to hang clothes for a local thrift shop. Megan also enjoys doing yoga, going cosmic bowling with friends and playing mini-golf.

Along with her family, Megan is an avid camper and enjoys swimming outdoors. She also loves to cook! She is a graduate of the CCAC culinary program and currently works at Kuhn’s Market washing dishes, making pizza and prepping meals.
