Meet Kallie from Special Olympics Pennsylvania

To honor Special Olympics’ Global Week of Inclusion (7.19 to 7.24), we’re celebrating the amazing spirits of Special Olympics athletes. Meet Kallie!

We caught up with Kallie to get the scoop on her favorite things about being an athlete. 

Aerie: Which sport is your favorite? 

Kallie: Swimming—I swim the 200 Individual Medley, the 50 Butterfly and the 100 Freestyle. 

Aerie: Why do you love competing in Special Olympics? 

Kallie: I like seeing my friends and coaches. 

Aerie: What’s the best part of being an athlete? 

Kallie: I love being part of a team and being active. 

Aerie: What advice do you have for other athletes? 

Kallie: Try lots of sports. 

Kallie has participated in Special Olympics for the past four years. She trains and competes in swimming along with being involved with Special Olympics Unified Sports® programs at Duquesne University (basketball) and the University of Pittsburgh (volleyball). 

Kallie is very active in outdoor sports as she is involved in adaptive team rowing with the Three Rivers Rowing Association, enjoys swimming and taking hikes in the woods. 

Outside of sports Kallie keeps very active as she loves taking art classes, exercising and taking classes to learn the language of Mandarin. Kaylie also keeps herself busy working at as part of a prep kitchen team and is responsible for preparing a variety of foods for their customers.
