How To: Arroz Con Leche with Janet Gomez

At Aerie, we want to continue celebrating Latinx Heritage Month after kicking things off with a number of educational resources that help us learn more about this community. Next up, our #AerieREAL Ambassador Janet Gomez — a proud Latina woman and mother who has taken the Aerie family on her motherhood journey since the birth of her second daughter in August — has shared one of her favorite recipes for us to try: Arroz Con Leche.

How to Make Arroz Con Leche With #AerieREAL Ambassador Janet Gomez

Janet recounts this delicacy as one of her favorite Hispanic recipes from her childhood, which makes it all the more sentimental now that she gets to pass the dish on to her own daughters. She explains that there are many variations to this cuisine — which is often likened to rice pudding — but one thing she loves about it the most is the use of cinnamon (one of her favorite scents!). Not to mention, arroz con leche makes for the perfect treat as the weather cools down and you start to cozy up in your favorite Aerie sweaters.

Learn how to make it with us by browsing through Janet’s vibrant images and checking out the full list of ingredients and cooking instructions below.

Arroz Con Leche

Ingredients:

4 cups of water

1 cinnamon stick

2 cups of rice

5 cups of whole milk

1 can of evaporated milk

1 can of condensed sweetened milk

Ground cinnamon (optional)

Directions:

Bring cinnamon stick and water to a boil. Once it has boiled, add the rice. Cover, and lower the heat.  Once the rice is cooked, add the whole milk and evaporated milk. Continuously stir to make sure the milk doesn’t burn – stir until it starts to boil. Once it has boiled, add half a can of condensed milk and mix it all together. You can add the whole can if you want it sweeter. Once mixed, it is ready to be served! Sprinkle some ground cinnamon on top and it is ready to enjoy!
